Behind The Scenes: Upgrading Authentic Outfit Details
Thank you for following our Behind The Scenes series with upgrading all the dolls and outfits before our big launch in May! Joeydolls is a brand that is dedicated to creating diverse Asian dolls that represent the culture, heritage and beauty of Asian Americans. Let's take a deeper look behind the scenes at all the vibrant design details of our Joeydolls' Asian Cultural Dolls. Our unique dolls are carefully crafted with cultural accuracy and exquisite detail to create a product that will bring joy to everyone!
So on top of upgrading all the fabrics and outfit designs, we also took a look at each of the details of the dolls including their accessories. We wanted all of the details to be authentic to its culture. It is not an easy process but I think the hard work is going to be worth it!
We spent a really long time trying to find a traditional Chinese knot for our cheongsam/qi pao. We were turned away many times from different garment factories that produce these buttons. It was also really difficult to find the right colour. We nearly gave up on this but we persisted and found a really gorgeous Chinese knot that fit the beautiful dress we have!
I also decided at the last minute to upgrade the design on the dress to embroidery to improve the look and feel of the dress on top of upgrading the material of the dress itself. I took a lot of time to get the embroidery design right but we finally did it looked amazing!
However we ran into a another roadblock when we discovered the satin didn’t look great when it was embroidered. So although the satin was so beautiful and soft to touch, we had to change the dress to a cotton fabric.
Above is the dress on the cotton fabric. The embroidery is now perfect and just really detail on the dress.
The Indian doll has been another one that has been incredibly difficult to get right. Although we upgraded all the fabrics and it looks so much better, we tried to upgrade the pattern detailing on the lehenga skirt. We attempted embroidery but unfortunately it was far too expensive to do.
We then also tried to do a custom lace. Despite us trying multiple attempts to change the design, we ran into some issues with sizing. So we had to revert back to printing the pattern onto the satin. Will be revealing how this looks soon!
