Today, we’re so excited to take you behind the scenes and show you how we upgraded every tiny detail - from tiny knots to rich embroidery - to make our dolls the inclusive dolls for kids we dreamed of. This journey wasn’t easy, but it was so worth it!

When I first dreamed up Joeydolls, I knew I wanted them to be more than pretty. I wanted kids to feel their heritage through touch - the satin of a cheongsam, the delicate knot of a Chinese button, the soft swirl of a lehenga skirt.

But getting these details right takes so much work! One wrong thread and it no longer feels real.

We know that when children see their culture reflected accurately, they grow up with confidence. That’s what makes authentic Asian dolls so much more than toys - they’re tools for emotional growth, pride, and inclusivity!

📌 The Cheongsam Knot

We spent months tracking down a traditional Chinese knot for our cheongsam/qi pao. Many garment factories said no — the knots were too intricate. The colour was impossible to match. We almost gave up! But we kept searching and finally found the perfect knot that made our design come alive!

📌 The Embroidered Dress
Originally, we chose satin for its soft feel. But embroidery didn’t sit right on the shiny fabric — it bunched and looked awkward. I made the hard call to switch the fabric to cotton. It felt like a setback, but when we saw the final embroidery? WOW! It was crisp, vibrant, and so detailed. The change was worth it!

📌 The Indian Lehenga Skirt

The Indian doll was another adventure! We tried adding embroidery but it was too costly for small batches. Next, we attempted custom lace — but the sizing wasn’t right. We finally settled on a beautiful printed pattern on satin. Sometimes the best solution is a creative compromise!

These upgrades mean extra cost, extra time, extra everything. But to us, it’s not optional. It’s how we show your family - and every child - that their culture is worth doing right. Our authentic Asian dolls are here to fight stereotypes, spread love, and help kids grow up proud!
